Suggested Itineries For Your Canal Cruising Holiday

1 week Cruise

Laggan to Loch Oich ( Great Glen Water Park where one can wind surf, water ski, eat , drink, swim/Sauna) onto the pretty village of Fort Augustus to learn more about Highland Life at the Clansman Centre and travel down a staircase of 5 Locks through the centre of the village. On entering Loch Ness, look out for the Monster and cruise onto Drumnadrochit, centre of Monster Hunting activities and exhibitions. Moor your boat below Urquart Castle to explore the remains of this once great fortress blown up by the Red Coats. Further down Loch Ness is Inverness,the capital of the Highlands and Britains youngest City. Retrace your steps to Laggan and continue down Lochy Lochy to Gairlochy under the shadow of Ben Nevis and on through the Caledonian Canal to Neptunes Staircase at Banavie overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Fort William.

2 week Cruise

As above but with more time for excursions and diversions. Take a trip from Banavie to Mallaig,(a small fishing town on the wild western coast of Scotland), using the West Highland Railway line. one of the worlds most scenic rail journeys. From mid May to mid September the Jacobites steam train runs daily along this spectacular route, part of which was featured in the Harry Potter films. This is one of the great railway journeys, a truly magical day out.

Experience more magic - the magic of the mountains - by taking a gondola up Anoch Mor, beside Ben Nevis to absorb the breathtaking scenery of the Highlands overlooking Loch Linnhe and the Caledonian Canal and out to the Outer Hebrides. The Snowgoose Restaurant awaits you at the top along with a Mountain Discovery Centre, mountain trails, playpark and World Cup Downhill mountain bike track.

Visit the capital of the Highlands, Inverness, to enjoy good shopping, restaurants and bars, a theatre trip or fit yourself out at a Kilt makers. From Inverness harbour you can take a trip to watch bottle nosed Dolphins in the Moray Firth. You could also treat yourself to a tour of Culloden Moor, site of the last battle fought on British soil in 1745, ending in the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Spend a day Fly fishing for Salmon on the river Oich with our resident Ghillie to teach and assist you or a day trolling for Salmon in Loch Ness from a small boat with a Ghillie familiar with the local waters and habits of the fish.
