Brown Trout; Top Methods and tackle:
Fly Fishing, flies, emerging black nymphs, gold heads, peter ross, olive dunn, greenwells glory, march brown, size 16,s to 10,s rod 9ft, 5/6 AFTM, 4/5lb leader, shore or boat. Trolling/Spinning, Red & Silver Toby?s, Mepps gold & red, small rapplas, various colours. Rod light 9ft-spinning rod, 6lb mono, bait runner reel, Shore or boat. Worm fishing, red worm or brandlings, ledgered, 9ft light tip rod, bait runner reel, 6lb mono, and hooks size 8. Shore fishing.

Ferrox: Top methods and tackle:
Trolling with medium to large Rappalas, plugs, large Toby style spoons, varying colours, preferred rainbow, perch, Zebra and brown trout patterns. Rod 10ft medium to stiff, Bait runner style reel, 12lb mono. Boat fishing only. Downrigger method, large Rappala same colours as trolling or dead small silver sea fish frozen bait, fished slowly with stiff 9ft rod, bait runner reel and 15lb mono, Boat fishing only.

Salmon: Top methods and tackle:
Fly fishing, flies shrimp variants, blue and silver doctor, Jock Scott, sizes 6/8, Rod 10ft AFTM 7/8 10lb mono. Trolling, with medium to large Rappalas, plugs, large Toby style spoons, varying colours, preferred rainbow, perch, Zebra and traditional Devon Minnows, Rod 10ft spinning stiff action, light spinning reel or small multiplier with 12lb mono, boat only.

Pike: Top methods and tackle:
Trolling with medium & large Rappalas, Big S plugs and similar, large bronze and copper spoons, or trolling herring and medium size Mackerel slowly and a double jardine treble hook rig, with sight Muppet red rig, best depth around 14ft near to the margins. Rod 11ft 2.5lb specimen class, large bait runner style reel, loaded with 15lb mono, boat only.

Jerk Bait fishing, with 8inch perch, brown and rainbow style colours, floaters and sinking, short 6ft boat style stiff rod and small multiplier reel loaded with 15lb braid, boat and shore.

Dead baiting: Best baits, Mackerel, Herring, sprat and smelt, please note live baiting and the importing of coarse fish into Scotland is banned, only can use frozen sea baits, best to use two static rods, with different baits, one on the bottom and the other popped up, on standard Double size 8 treble hooked jardine rigs, with 2 ounce weights, with Rod 11ft 2.5lb Rod 12ft 2.5lb specimen class, large bait runner style reel, loaded with 15lb mono, best with bite alarms, Drift floats can be affective, depth set just above the bottom, same rods, line and reels, shore only.

Plug & Spinning, an opportunity to try varying array of lures in your box, best with a 9ft rod and light spinning reel loaded with 10lb mono or braid and please note when fishing for Pike, always use sound wire traces, shore only.

Charr: Top Methods and tackle: Note difficult to catch and need to fish at, at least 70ft of depth, trolling slowly, small bright, silver, gold or brass, specialist Charr spinners, or on anchor paternoster on static lines close to the bottom, either a team of size 20 red flies, or red maggots, need to have a sensitive touch and fish tend to be very small, but taste amazing. 8ft light sensitive ledger rod, light spinning reel and 4lb mono, and boat only.

Eel: Top methods and tackle: Ledgered worm, or small smelly sprat, hooks size 8, fished with bite indicator, rod 9ft light swing tip, or ledger, small bait runner reel with 5lb mono, bank only.

Caledonian Canal. Species: Pike, Trout, Eels

Brown Trout:Top methods and tackle:
Flies traditional peter ross, teal blue and silver, buzzers, gold heads and freeman?s fancy, sizes 12/14 Fly fishing 9ft fly rod AFTM 6/7, bank only.
