Caledonian Canal Winter Closure

The canal near Inverness in WinterThe Caledonian Canal will be closed to through traffic for a period this winter to allow essential repairs to be carried out by Scotland Transerv, on behalf of Transport Scotland, on the road swing bridges at Banavie, Aberchalder and Fort Augustus. Other works, during the same closure period, may be confirmed later in the year.

The canal will be closed to through traffic from 4pm on Friday 4 January 2013 until 4pm on Sunday 17 March 2013 inclusive.

The canal will repoen for through passage from 9am on Monday 18 March 2013.

During this closure period, navigation of some sections of canal will be possible within  normal operating hours of Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, and by prior arrangement with the Canal Office.

Important: Vessels wishing to transit from sea to sea after the New Year break (from 9am Thursday 3 January 2013) and before the planned closure MUST enter the canal sea locks by midday on 3 January to be sure of transit before the closure.

The Caprice

A modern boat, with a light and airy interior, ample headroom and features normally associated with larger boats.

The 2 en-suite cabins are located towards the front of the boat, leaving the rear of the boat open for relaxing! The glass sliding doors in the sitting area lead out onto the aft deck of the boat, and steps up to the fly-bridge (open upper deck) and the secondary steering position.

The Countess – new to the fleet for 2013

A stylish and spacious boat with rear sundeck

The Countess is also making her first appearance at West Highland Sailing for the 2013 season.  This boat has one double  cabin at the rear with en-suite shower and toilet. A cabin forward has two single beds with adjacent shower and toilet, while the roomy central salon provides a convertile settee bed, making the  Countess suitable for a maximum of six people and superemely comfortable for four.

There are two steering positions, one inside and one outside on the rear sundeck. There is a full width bathing platform at the rear of the boat.
